Meet Dr. Moore

Dr. Laura Moore is an Assistant Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at HSS and an Instructor at Weill Cornell Medical College. As a fellowship-trained sports medicine and shoulder specialist, Dr. Moore has experience treating a wide variety of sports-related and degenerative conditions of the shoulder, knee, and elbow. Dr. Moore is passionate about helping athletes of all ages, levels, and backgrounds get back to the activities they love using non-operative, arthroscopic and open techniques.

After completing her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Duke University, Dr. Moore obtained her medical degree and PhD in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University. She then completed residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of California San Francisco followed by a 2-year fellowship in sports medicine and research at HSS. She has been a part of the medical team for the New York Mets, New York Knicks, New York Liberty, Brooklyn Cyclones, New York PSAL and Golden Gate Rugby Club.

Dr. Moore has extensive interest and background in both clinical and translational research. Her current work is focused on understanding how joints stiffen and the factors that predispose certain patients to produce excess scar tissue. The goal of this research is to combine clinical data, preclinical models, and novel drug delivery strategies to reduce scar formation after injury thereby reducing joint stiffness, improving soft tissue healing and minimizing post-traumatic osteoarthritis. She regularly presents her work at national meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Research Society. Her work is currently funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Complex Joint Reconstruction Center pilot grant, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. Dr. Moore is also a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
